MAXI MISNOMER 8

BY FRED BARBER

Maxi: Maxi’s and Bitcoiners are all great people.

Me: Nope! “The phrase ‘not your keys, not your coins’ is a wise saying, but be cautious: some individuals in the Bitcoin community may take your coins, legally or illegally, without hesitation. I stand by this assertion: not everyone in the Bitcoin space prioritizes your best interests. Beware of Slim Shady!!! Let’s get into it.
Bitcoin doesn’t inherently make individuals good or bad; it’s a currency and tool. That’s it. The rest is hype sponsored by people on either side of this monetary divide. Some projects, regardless of being Bitcoin or altcoin, are designed to exploit users. I’ve personally encountered scams using Bitcoin, including being approached to lend credibility to a fraudulent project. Just for the record, I am not into ripping off people’s grandma. (Horrible!!!) Additionally, I’ve witnessed a Bitcoin maximalist taking advantage of a student’s lack of knowledge. (Treacherous!!!)

Imagine almost getting ripped off by the person that is supposed to be teaching you. The good news is that most people that I have encountered want Bitcoin to spread through good will. The vast majority of Bitcoiners are excited about newcomers and they are willing to help you navigate through any rough patches you may encounter on your Bitcoin journey.
The aforementioned experiences emphasize the importance of maintaining private keys to non-custodial wallets. To regular folks that means buying a Bitcoin wallet and moving your money off of the exchanges. While some may prefer third-party custody of their coins, it’s crucial to remember that no one is exempt from greed, unethical behavior, or scamming. Cultural perspectives on ethics may vary, so it’s essential to:
– Keep an open mind
– Seek multiple assessments
– Understand that Bitcoin is an international asset
– Conduct a background check or ask around to get multiple perspectives
Remember, being a Bitcoin maximalist or an expert doesn’t guarantee integrity. Stay vigilant and prioritize your financial security.
Bitcoin’s success is not guaranteed. We must work together to:
– Increase adoption and transaction volume
– Promote decentralized mining
– Encourage circulating supply
